Quran 59:13

Surah Al-Hashr, Verse 13

لَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ رَهْبَةً فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ

Word by word

لَأَنتُمْ la-antum Certainly you أَشَدُّ ashaddu (are) more intense رَهْبَةًۭ rahbatan (in) fear فِى fī in صُدُورِهِم ṣudūrihim their breasts مِّنَ mina than ٱللَّهِ ۚ l-lahi Allah ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That بِأَنَّهُمْ bi-annahum (is) because they قَوْمٌۭ qawmun (are) a people لَّا lā (who do) not يَفْقَهُونَ yafqahūna understand

Transliteration

Laantum ashaddu rahbatan fee sudoorihimmina Allahi thalika bi-annahum qawmun layafqahoon

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Ye are more awful as a fear in their bosoms than Allah. That is because they are a folk who understand not.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Of a truth ye are stronger (than they) because of the terror in their hearts, (sent) by Allah. This is because they are men devoid of understanding.

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

ثم قال تعالى : ( لأنتم أشد رهبة في صدورهم من الله ) أي : يخافون منكم أكثر من خوفهم من الله ، كقوله : ( إذا فريق منهم يخشون الناس كخشية الله أو أشد خشية ) [ النساء : 77 ] ; ولهذا قال : ( ذلك بأنهم قوم لا يفقهون )
