Quran 7:111

Surah Al-A'raaf, Verse 111

قَالُوٓا۟ أَرْجِهْ وَأَخَاهُ وَأَرْسِلْ فِى ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ حَٰشِرِينَ

Word by word

قَالُوٓا۟ qālū They said أَرْجِهْ arjih Postpone him وَأَخَاهُ wa-akhāhu and his brother وَأَرْسِلْ wa-arsil and send فِى fī in ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ l-madāini the cities حَـٰشِرِينَ ḥāshirīna gatherers

Transliteration

Qaloo arjih waakhahu waarsilfee almada-ini hashireen

Translations

Pickthall — Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners,

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect-

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال ابن عباس : ( ( 112 ) أرجه ) أخره . وقال قتادة : احبسه . ) وأرسل ) أي : ابعث ( في المدائن ) أي : في الأقاليم ومعاملة ملكك ، ( حاشرين ) أي : من يحشر لك السحرة من سائر البلاد ويجمعهم .

وقد كان السحر في زمانهم غالبا كثيرا ظاهرا . واعتقد من اعتقد منهم ، وأوهم من أوهم منهم ، أن ما جاء موسى ، عليه السلام ، من قبيل ما تشعبذه سحرتهم ; فلهذا جمعوا له السحرة ليعارضوه بنظير ما أراهم من البينات
