Quran 7:69

Surah Al-A'raaf, Verse 69

أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ أَن جَآءَكُمْ ذِكْرٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍ مِّنكُمْ لِيُنذِرَكُمْ وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ إِذْ جَعَلَكُمْ خُلَفَآءَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَزَادَكُمْ فِى ٱلْخَلْقِ بَصْۜطَةً فَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ ءَالَآءَ ٱللَّهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

Word by word

أَوَعَجِبْتُمْ awaʿajib'tum Do you wonder أَن an that جَآءَكُمْ jāakum has come to you ذِكْرٌۭ dhik'run a reminder مِّن min from رَّبِّكُمْ rabbikum your Lord عَلَىٰ ʿalā on رَجُلٍۢ rajulin a man مِّنكُمْ minkum among you لِيُنذِرَكُمْ ۚ liyundhirakum that he may warn you وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ wa-udh'kurū And remember إِذْ idh when جَعَلَكُمْ jaʿalakum He made you خُلَفَآءَ khulafāa successors مِنۢ min from بَعْدِ baʿdi after قَوْمِ qawmi (the) people نُوحٍۢ nūḥin (of) Nuh وَزَادَكُمْ wazādakum and increased you فِى fī in ٱلْخَلْقِ l-khalqi the stature بَصْۜطَةًۭ ۖ baṣ'ṭatan extensively فَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ fa-udh'kurū So remember ءَالَآءَ ālāa (the) Bounties ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah لَعَلَّكُمْ laʿallakum so that you may تُفْلِحُونَ tuf'liḥūna succeed

Transliteration

Awa AAajibtum an jaakum thikrunmin rabbikum AAala rajulin minkum liyunthirakum wathkurooith jaAAalakum khulafaa min baAAdi qawmi noohinwazadakum fee alkhalqi bastatan fathkurooalaa Allahi laAAallakum tuflihoon

Translations

Marvel ye that there should come unto you a Reminder from your Lord by means of a man among you, that he may warn you? Remember how He made you viceroys after Noah's folk, and gave you growth of stature. Remember (all) the bounties of your Lord, that haply ye may be successful.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

"Do ye wonder that there hath come to you a message from your Lord through a man of your own people, to warn you? call in remembrance that He made you inheritors after the people of Noah, and gave you a stature tall among the nations. Call in remembrance the benefits (ye have received) from Allah: that so ye may prosper."

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

( أوعجبتم أن جاءكم ذكر من ربكم على رجل منكم لينذركم ) أي : لا تعجبوا أن بعث الله إليكم رسولا من أنفسكم لينذركم أيام الله ولقاءه ، بل احمدوا الله على ذاكم ، ( واذكروا إذ جعلكم خلفاء من بعد قوم نوح ) أي : واذكروا نعمة الله عليكم إذ جعلكم من ذرية نوح ، الذي أهلك الله أهل الأرض بدعوته ، لما خالفوه وكذبوه ، ( وزادكم في الخلق بسطة ) أي : زاد طولكم على الناس بسطة ، أي : جعلكم أطول من أبناء جنسكم ، كما قال تعالى : في قصة طالوت : ( وزاده بسطة في العلم والجسم ) [ البقرة : 247 ] ( فاذكروا آلاء الله ) أي : نعمه ومننه عليكم ( لعلكم تفلحون ) [ وآلاء جمع ألى وقيل : إلى ]
