Quran 7:98

Surah Al-A'raaf, Verse 98

أَوَأَمِنَ أَهْلُ ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ أَن يَأْتِيَهُم بَأْسُنَا ضُحًى وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ

Word by word

أَوَأَمِنَ awa-amina Or felt secure أَهْلُ ahlu (the) people ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ l-qurā (of) the cities أَن an that يَأْتِيَهُم yatiyahum comes to them بَأْسُنَا basunā Our punishment ضُحًۭى ḍuḥan (in) daylight وَهُمْ wahum while they يَلْعَبُونَ yalʿabūna (were) playing

Transliteration

Awa amina ahlu alqura an ya/tiyahumba/suna duhan wahum yalAAaboon

Translations

Or are the people of the townships then secure from the coming of Our wrath upon them in the daytime while they play?

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Or else did they feel secure against its coming in broad daylight while they played about (care-free)?

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

أي : في حال شغلهم وغفلتهم ، ( أفأمنوا مكر الله ) أي : بأسه ونقمته وقدرته عليهم وأخذه إياهم في حال سهوهم وغفلتهم
