Quran 68:33

Surah Al-Qalam, Verse 33

كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ

Word by word

كَذَٰلِكَ kadhālika Such ٱلْعَذَابُ ۖ l-ʿadhābu (is) the punishment وَلَعَذَابُ walaʿadhābu And surely the punishment ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ l-ākhirati (of) the Hereafter أَكْبَرُ ۚ akbaru (is) greater لَوْ law if كَانُوا۟ kānū they يَعْلَمُونَ yaʿlamūna know

Transliteration

Kathalika alAAathabu walaAAathabual-akhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoon

Translations

Such was the punishment. And verily the punishment of the Hereafter is greater if they did but know.

Yusuf Ali — Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Punishment in the Hereafter,- if only they knew!

تفسير ابن كثير — Ismail ibn Kathir

قال الله تعالى : ( كذلك العذاب ) أي : هكذا عذاب من خالف أمر الله ، وبخل بما آتاه الله وأنعم به عليه ، ومنع حق المسكين والفقراء وذوي الحاجات ، وبدل نعمة الله كفرا ( ولعذاب الآخرة أكبر لو كانوا يعلمون ) أي : هذه عقوبة الدنيا كما سمعتم ، وعذاب الآخرة أشق . وقد ورد في حديث رواه الحافظ البيهقي من طريق جعفر بن محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن علي بن أبي طالب ، عن أبيه ، عن جده أن رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - نهى عن الجداد بالليل ، والحصاد بالليل .
