بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

   ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

   The Calamity!

   مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

   Pickthall

   What is the Calamity?

3. 3

   وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

   Pickthall

   Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Calamity is!

4. 4

   يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ

   Pickthall

   A day wherein mankind will be as thickly-scattered moths

5. 5

   وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ

   Pickthall

   And the mountains will become as carded wool.

6. 6

   فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

   Pickthall

   Then, as for him whose scales are heavy (with good works),

7. 7

   فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ

   Pickthall

   He will live a pleasant life.

8. 8

   وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

   Pickthall

   But as for him whose scales are light,

9. 9

   فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌ

   Pickthall

   A bereft and Hungry One will be his mother,

10. 10

    وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ

    Pickthall

    Ah, what will convey unto thee what she is! -

11. 11

    نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌۢ

    Pickthall

    Raging Fire.

About Surah Al-Qariah

Also written Qariah, Qari’ah

Surah Al-Qariah is the 101st surah of the Quran: a Makki surah of 11 verses in para 30.

It describes people on that Day like scattered moths, and mountains like fluffed wool (101:4–5); whoever’s scales are heavy will be in a pleasing life, and whoever’s are light, his refuge is a blazing fire (101:6–11).

What is the meaning of Surah Al-Qariah?

Al-Qariah means “the Striking Calamity”, a name for the Day of Judgement (101:1–3).
